Copyright & Fair Use: A how-to for education

Copyright & Fair Use: A how-to for education Online

Do you find yourself wondering whether you can use a certain image, video, article, or table in your teaching and scholarship? Do you waiver between asking permission or begging for forgiveness later? This class will empower you to confidently make basic copyright decisions. Using your real-life scenarios, we will introduce and apply the concept of fair use (an exception to copyright) and will examine other copyright options as a way to lower risk and around copyright decision-making. Class topics include:

  1. What is the purpose of copyright?
  2. What is copyrightable and what is not?
  3. Copyright ownership as a university employee.
  4. Applying fair use to participant copyright scenarios

This is an active discussion class, please bring your own copyright situations/concerns.
