Searching for the Evidence

Searching for the Evidence Online

Learn to use databases and tools available to locate methodologically sound and clinically relevant journal articles. Practice using resources such as PubMed and Embase, and explore available limits and filters.  At least one month of searching experience is advised as a prerequisite to this class.

Learning objectives

By the end of the session, class participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the hierarchical nature of clinical research study designs, represented by the level of evidence pyramid.
  2. Formulate an answerable clinical question using the PICO format.
  3. Construct a database search strategy based on concepts identified in the PICO question.
  4. Run the search strategy in a database (using filters when appropriate) to find journal articles that can answer the PICO question.

Zoom meeting information will be sent to you after you register.
